Fernando Meirelles, the director of City of God and the Cannes-feted Blindness, is making a loose Brazilian adaptation of Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost. The action will be transposed to New York and London and will follow a Brazilian boy who gets a scholarship to study Shakespeare abroad with students from around the world. "Shakespeare is a heavy drug," Meirelles said in an exchange of emails with Reuters. "The more you read, the more you want to read. Each line has poetry, philosophy, a deep understanding of what we are." Filming begins next year.
Will Ferrell is to star in 2-Face, a comedy about a man with split personality disorder - the twist is one is racist and the other liberal. No word yet on who will direct nor when filming starts. The film is penned by Hancock scriptwriter Vince Gilligan, who also wrote for The X-Files and the 1998 Drew Barrymore comedy, Home Fries.
An adaptation of the hit comic book series Lucky Luke is in the works across the Channel. Gallic star Jean Dujardin will don cowboy boots and hat for the feature, which will begin filming at the end of next month in Argentina. The cartoon, which tells the story of a cowboy in the American west, was one of continental Europe's most successful cartoons in the postwar era, alongside Tintin and Asterix. First created by Belgian writer Morris in the late 40s, Lucky Luke was for many years penned by Asterix writer René Goscinny.
The trailer for Body of Lies, Ridley Scott's upcoming spy drama starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe, is available online. The movie tells the tale of a journalist hired by the CIA to track down an al-Qaida leader in Jordan.
